Structural Inspection Information and Class Schedule  
 
 
This course is designed to prepare the student for the Structural Inspection field in Nevada. Below is a brief description as to what the structural inspection field entails. 

An inspector will assess a particular attachment to land (under 10,000 square feet), finding specific defects that will be disclosed to all interested parties.  

The state of Nevada will require the completion of a three step process to activate a structural inspection license: 

Step 1 - The completion of at least 40 hours of academic structural inspection education in preparation for the Nevada licensing exam. (This step is completed in the course 101) 

Step 2 - Passing the Nevada structural inspection exam with a 75% or better. (90 questions, given approximately one week after the end of the course) 

Step 3 - The completion of either 25 inspections with an existing inspector or the equivalent in education (Click here to review the course equivalent for step 3 / 102 course)

Some of the things that you will inspect:

  1. Systems and Standards of the home
  2. Driveways, walks, patio, deck, porch...integrity 
  3. Roof Surface?remaining life estimate
  4. Mechanical Workings of the home...appliances est.. 
  5. Windows?condition of caulking, glazing, storms and panes
  6. Gutters?rust, extension, pitch, or splash block problems
  7. Paint, Siding or Trim?peeling or separations
  8. Electrical Service?proper loops, panel box inspection, circuit testing
  9. Structural Integrity?house & foundation, sags and humps in roofs and floors
  10. Garage?Structural integrity, door opener safety check, roof. 

The goal of this course is to complete the states initial requirements for licensure and some practical insight into the field. NAC 645D.210 Requirements for certificate as certified residential inspector. (NAC 645D) See 210 Section 1 of the requirement is fulfilled with this education.

Two Saturdays of onsite inspection training days from 10AM to 2PM.
After taking and passing the Nevada exam a prospective licensee must complete either 25 inspections with an existing inspector or a 102 course titled onsite inspection. (the equivalent in education) as specified in section 3-2 of NAC645D.210

The 102 course is designed to be the equivalent of 25 inspection with an existing inspector.  

 

Classes sizes are determined by the admissions office.    You must register and pay for the course prior to the day the course begins. You must attend all days to receive your course completion certificate. 

Cost of the course is $630.00, the tuition includes the textbook by Russell Burges, the state law manual, applications and all materials necessary for the course. 

The state of Nevada has subcontracted out to a private testing organization (PSI) to administer the Structural Inspection examination. After completing the 101 or 60 hour academic course students may schedule for the examination with the PSI testing center. Click here for more PSI information
